Originally designated Charlie Company, BattleGroup Griffin, 89th Dragoon Armored Cavalry Regiment....they became known throughout the Inner Sphere as the "Iron Maidens". Formed in 3005 as a showcase unit of elite female MechWarriors to boost interest for potential new recruits, the Iron Maidens serve an essential public relations role for the Blackhawks.
Despite the P.R. spin to the unit, the Iron Maidens have always remained an elite front-line fighting unit repeatedly honored for their skill and valor on the battlefield. Once part of the 89th Dragoon Regiment, the "Iron Maidens" are now an independent unit reporting directly to the Blackhawks High Command for selected high value missions.
While the original Iron Maidens have long ago retired or been killed in action, the current incarnation of the Maidens continue the proud legacy of their forebears by remaining one of the most lethal Mech units around.
Though their skills are of the highest caliber, the Iron Maidens are most widely known to the masses through their highly sought pinups, calendars, tri-vids, posters and holos. In fact, the Iron Maidens merchandising is so succesful that it generates enough income to cover their annual operating expenses......and then some.
